Even after reading the reviews before I purchased this and understanding that there is some caution required in its use, I cut myself within 10 seconds of opening it, lol! The very first pass and I drew blood. It's on me because of having read in a review how sharp it was. But, gee --couldn't they offer some instructions for use? There is absolutely nothing included. Not even in a box. It works beautifully in general: the cuts are clean and exactly what you want in a julienne. The finger cut was also clean, ha ha. The only concerning aspect of the product is how you hold it and the need for extreme caution in doing so. I wasn't sure how to rate the ergonomic aspects of this...It's not easy to hold and scrape and NOT cut yourself. But, if you go slowly and cautiously, it's a perfect instrument. Who grates slowly, though, you know?

I usually love OXO products, but they really missed the boat with this one. The resulting "julienne” strips are little different from what one would get from a box graters. And, despite the pictures, it cuts on a push stroke rather than a pull stroke, making it much harder to hold onto the vegetable while slicing it.

Not recommended at all.

Like most people, I don’t like admitting that I was wrong. However I was so wrong with my original review that I am compelled to correct the record.

I totally misunderstood how this tool works. I was under the impression that the spikes contacted the vegetable directly. They do not. When used correctly, the sharp blade cuts off a slice of the vegetable and then the slice goes through the spikes, julienning the slice. It does indeed work with a pull stroke.

I am revising my rating from one star to five stars, and offer my apology to the folks at OXO.
